Thursday Open Technology Lab

How Does the Internet Get From Here to There?

Ask · Learn · Build. A public lesson; no account or computer required.

Replay, activity, and public resources · uploads closed
  • Week 5
  • ~30 minutes
  • Paper + pencil works
  • Explorer · Builder · Engineer / Researcher

Deliver three paper packets

  1. Draw D (Device), H (Home router), A, B, C, E (Routers), and S (Service). Connect only D-H, H-A, A-B, B-S, A-C, C-E, and E-S.
  2. Make three paper messages, P1, P2, and P3, each with source D and destination S.
  3. Move P1 along D → H → A → B → S. Write the visited nodes and count the links.
  4. Cross out B and its connected links. Move P2 and P3 along another available D-to-S route, without jumping between unconnected nodes.
  5. Write the new route, compare link counts, and explain what must change at A. Discuss whether a real network always recovers instantly.

3k MLV is attached at https://mlv.gunnchos.com. Observed 2026-10-23: the live host offers a local test identity and says Supabase is not configured. Return navigation from that live build still opens the workers.dev preview until the owner rebuilds with VITE_GUNNCHOS_PORTAL_URL=https://gunnchos.com. AUTH_MODE=LOCAL_LIMITED. Online GitHub/Supabase auth is not production-ready.
